76 Brilliant Students Bagged High Scores In NECO 2023 Common Entrance Exams

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2023 Examination. The examination, which saw the participation of 69,829 pupils across the country, serves as the gateway for admission into Junior Secondary Schools (JSS 1) of federal unity colleges.

The results were handed over to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. David Adejo, by Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, the Registrar of NECO. During the brief ceremony, Mr. Adejo revealed that out of the 3,036 pupils who sat for the examination, 76 students achieved the highest score of 203, while the lowest score was 1, obtained by six pupils.

Highlighting the significance of the National Common Entrance Examination, Mr. Adejo emphasized that it is a highly competitive test that offers Nigerian children, both at home and abroad, the opportunity to gain admission into any of the nation's 110 unity schools. These schools play a crucial role in fostering national unity, as reflected in their motto, "pro Unitate."

The examination took place on June 3, 2023, across various locations in Nigeria, as well as in Benin Republic and Togo. Mr. Adejo provided additional statistics on the examination, stating, "A total of 72,865 pupils registered for this year's edition, compared to 71,738 in 2022.

Lagos State had the highest number of registrants with 18,644, while Taraba recorded the lowest with 102. With 38,801 female registrants and 34,064 males, we are making progress in bridging the gender parity gap. Out of the registered pupils, 69,829 sat for the examination, while 3,036 were absent."

Expressing his gratitude to everyone involved in the successful conduct of the examination, Mr. Adejo acknowledged the efforts of the National Examinations Council, examination monitors, markers, and the press for their contributions.

He commended the smooth and efficient administration of the exam, noting that it indicated NECO's improvement in delivering its examinations.

Mr. Adejo also reaffirmed that the admission criteria for selecting qualified candidates into federal unity colleges remained unchanged. The criteria are based on 60% merit, 30% equality of state representation, and 10% exigency.
