BUK’s 35th Convocation: 1,814 Convoked in Day 1, as Blind Graduand Receives VC’s Special Award

A total of one thousand eight hundred and fourteen (1,814) graduands from the Faculties of Agriculture, Education and Computer Science and Information Technology were convoked on Monday, 10th June, 2019 on the first day of Bayero University’s 35th Convocation Ceremony.

All the graduands from the three faculties were presented to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello for a handshake, which becomes the tradition of the University since the Convocation ceremonies were staggered.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Bello congratulated the graduands for graduating from the University after being found worthy in both character and learning, urging them to be good ambassadors of the University wherever they find themselves in the future.

During the ceremony, a blind graduand, Abdullahi Umar Abdullahi received a special award of the Vice Chancellor having graduated with Second Class Upper from the Department of Special Education.

“In spite of being physically challenged, Abdullahi, against all odds graduated with Second Class Upper Division with CGPA of 3.72.  This shows that disability is more in mind than of the body.

“The achievement by Malam Abdullahi during the 2017/2018 session coincides with the achievement of one of his lecturers. Bayero University is proud to produce its first blind professor in the person of Professor Jibrin Isa Diso of the same Department of Special Education,” said the Vice Chancellor.

The distribution of the graduands in the first day shows that 36 graduated with 1st Class Honours, 601 Second Class Upper, 940 Second Class Lower, 217 3rd Class and only 14 with the Pass.
