NECO Announces 2023 Common Entrance Examination Results

The National Examination Council (NECO) has recently disclosed the results of the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) for the academic year 2023.

The examination, aimed at facilitating admission to federal government-run colleges, was conducted nationwide.

Andrew Adejo, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, presented the results during a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to Mr. Adejo, a total of 69,829 pupils participated in the examination, which took place on Saturday, 3 June.

This number represents a slight decrease from the 72,865 registered pupils, with 3,036 students being absent from the test. Among the examinees, 38,801 were female candidates, while 34,064 were male candidates.

The top score achieved in the examination was 203, which was attained by 76 pupils. On the other end of the spectrum, six pupils received the lowest score of just one mark. 

Lagos State recorded the highest number of candidates, with 18,644 students, while Taraba State had the lowest participation, with only 102 candidates.

During the announcement, Mr. Adejo emphasized that the admission criteria for the federal government-run colleges remain unchanged.

The selection process consists of 60% merit-based admissions, 30% admissions based on state equality, and 10% admissions based on exigency.

He further assured that the Federal Ministry of Education is committed to concluding the admission process promptly and in accordance with the established criteria.

Mr. Adejo acknowledged the existing challenges faced by unity schools in terms of infrastructure, teacher quality, and feeding programs.

He assured the public that the government is making concerted efforts to address these issues and improve the teaching and learning environment across the country.

Furthermore, Mr. Adejo called upon the states of Adamawa, Bayelsa, and Kebbi to increase the number of pupils registering for the NCEE in their respective regions.

He commended the Governor of Zamfara State for the significant increase in the number of registrants from 1,000+ to 2,091 and urged other states to follow suit.

Additionally, he expressed his appreciation for the Governor's commitment to settling the debts owed to NECO.

The release of the 2023 NCEE results marks an important milestone in the educational journey for thousands of Nigerian pupils. 

The outcomes of this examination will determine their admission into prestigious federal government-run colleges, laying the foundation for their future academic endeavors.
