JAMB Announces Cut-Off Marks for Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education

Abuja, Nigeria - The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has unveiled the approved cut-off marks for the 2022/23 admissions into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across Nigeria. During the ongoing 2023 Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions and Awards in Abuja, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, disclosed that the cut-off mark for universities has been set at 140 and above, while the cut-off mark for polytechnics and colleges of education stands at 100.

The announcement by JAMB clarifies the minimum scores required for admission into various tertiary institutions in the country. Oloyede emphasized that institutions are obliged to adhere to the prescribed cut-off marks for their respective admissions processes.

According to Daily Trust, the decision to set the cut-off marks at 140 for universities and 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education aims to maintain a certain standard of academic excellence while ensuring fair opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to pursue higher education.

The meeting in Abuja, attended by heads of tertiary institutions and regulatory bodies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education, and the National Commission for Colleges of Education, served as a platform for stakeholders to discuss admissions policies and procedures for the upcoming academic year.

In related news, JAMB had previously announced its consideration of a "Bring Your Own Device" initiative, which would allow candidates to take the Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examinations (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) using their mobile phones. The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stated that the initiative aimed to address the financial burden associated with conducting examinations.

With the release of the approved cut-off marks, prospective students can now plan their applications accordingly, while tertiary institutions will be required to abide by the guidelines set forth by JAMB to ensure a fair and transparent admissions process for all candidates.
