The long-awaited report of the committee set up by Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State to investigate the controversy surrounding the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results has been submitted.
The eight-member panel, headed by Professor Nkemdili Nnonyelu, confirmed that candidate Mmesoma Ejikeme had indeed forged her JAMB result, contrary to her earlier claims and the records provided by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
According to the report obtained by PREMIUM TIMES, Mmesoma Ejikeme confessed to single-handedly forging the score of 362 before approaching a cyber cafe for printing.
The committee's findings shed light on the elaborate deception perpetrated by the 19-year-old student of Anglican Girls' Secondary School in Uruagu Nnewi, Enugu State.
The committee's terms of reference included reviewing Mmesoma Ejikeme's JAMB results, conducting interviews with relevant parties, and providing recommendations based on the investigation's findings.
The committee invited Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, the Principal of Anglican Girls Secondary School, and officials from JAMB for an interactive session.
During the session, JAMB officials presented evidence of multiple requests made by Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma to JAMB portal, inquiring about her results.
Each time she received the standard results indicating an aggregate score of 249 (Eng: 64, Phy: 54, Bio: 74, Che: 57). However, she submitted a different set of results with an aggregate score of 362 (Eng: 98, Phy: 89, Bio: 94, Che: 81), which diverged significantly from the authentic JAMB format.
Further red flags were highlighted by JAMB officials, including a different date of birth, registration number, and the use of an outdated notification of results template.
It was also discovered that the center name on the manipulated result sheet did not match the current name of the examination center.
In the presence of her principal and the Education Secretary, Mmesoma Ejikeme admitted to the committee's findings, acknowledging that the JAMB officials' narration accurately depicted the events.
She confessed to manipulating her UTME results by herself, using her phone, and subsequently printing the forged results at a local cyber cafe.
The committee, in its report, recommended that Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma issue a written apology to JAMB, Anglican Girls Secondary School, Uruagu Nnewi, and the Anambra State Government.
Additionally, the report suggested that she undergo psychological counseling and therapy to address the underlying factors that led to her misconduct.
The committee also emphasized the importance of all future JAMB candidates strictly adhering to the guidelines and procedures set by the examination body.
The committee commended JAMB for its diligent handling of the matter and the information provided regarding their interactions with the candidate.
It is hoped that the exposure of the truth, as revealed by the committee's investigation, will dispel the prevailing sentiments, misconceptions, and deceptions surrounding the controversy.
The Governor expressed his gratitude to the committee for their thoroughness in conducting the inquiry and expressed hope that the report's findings would help rectify the situation and restore public confidence in the examination process.
