The Kano State Government has released a substantial sum of over N1.5 billion for the payment of National Examination Council (NECO) registration fees. The funds will cover the fees of 57,000 secondary school students across the state.
This announcement was made by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Garba Shu’aibu, in a statement made available to The Punch on Wednesday.
The Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, revealed this development while overseeing the commencement of the 2023 NECO examination at Rumfa College in Kano.
He emphasized the administration's commitment to uplifting the education sector, recognizing it as the cornerstone for the socio-economic development of the citizens and the key to fostering meaningful progress in society.
"Education is the bedrock for any meaningful development in the society. Our government views investment in the education sector as a vital step towards nurturing the future leaders of tomorrow," stated the Deputy Governor.
He further urged the Parents Teachers Association to work in collaboration with schools in their respective areas to closely monitor the progress of their children and provide them with the necessary motivation to achieve desired results.
The Deputy Governor also reiterated the administration's dedication to advancing education in Kano and called upon the cooperation of citizens to elevate educational standards at both the primary and secondary school levels.
Furthermore, the Commissioner for Education, Umar Haruna Doguwa, disclosed that the Ministry of Education had established committees to assess boarding schools that were previously closed by the former administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
The aim is to evaluate their condition and determine the feasibility of reopening them. This move demonstrates the government's commitment to expanding access to quality education and ensuring that all students have the opportunity to learn and thrive.
The allocation of such a significant amount for NECO registration fees reflects the Kano State Government's recognition of education as a critical investment in the future.
