HND Graduate Turns Fish Seller After NYSC Struggles

Abdulsherifdeen Olatunde, a 3-year-old graduate of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, has taken an unconventional path following his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). 

After facing numerous rejections while applying for government jobs, Olatunde decided to venture into the fish-selling business.

His determination and entrepreneurial spirit have allowed him to sustain himself while also pursuing his ambitions.

Reflecting on his decision to become a fish seller, Olatunde explained that the scarcity of employment opportunities pushed him to explore alternative avenues.

Rather than resorting to fraudulent activities like some of his peers, he decided to embrace the hustle and embarked on his journey as a fish vendor.

He shared that engaging in this business has brought about positive changes in his life.

Olatunde's interest in the fish trade developed during his time in Niger State, where he served as a school teacher during his NYSC.

However, due to security concerns, he returned to his hometown of Offa, Kwara State, where he could pursue his entrepreneurial aspirations.

Despite facing challenges and skeptics who view his business as a mere side gig, Olatunde takes pride in his chosen occupation and remains committed to its success.

Starting with a modest investment of N9,850, Olatunde initially purchased three quarters of a carton of fish.

As his business grew, he gradually expanded his inventory to half a carton, then a whole carton, and eventually progressed to five cartons.

Depending on the weight of the fish, he can make a profit of up to N3,500 per carton, although there are times when he doesn't make any profit at all.

Nevertheless, his earnings enable him to cover his living expenses, including rent.

When discussing his future plans, Olatunde expressed his desire to secure capital to expand and enhance his business.

He envisions a time when he can purchase fish directly from the source rather than relying on the market.

Furthermore, he aspires to become a supplier to others, providing opportunities for additional growth and success.

Currently, Olatunde is solely focused on his business and has no immediate plans for marriage or romantic relationships. His primary goal is to establish a stable and thriving enterprise.
