Bilal Abdullahi       Wednesday, July 12, 2023

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has authorized the disbursement of N62 million in scholarships. The funds will benefit indigent students from Borno who are pursuing legal studies in various law schools across Nigeria, as well as those studying French language immersion courses.

The announcement was made by Bala Isa, the Executive Secretary of the State Scholarship Board, during a press briefing held in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

Isa further disclosed that the allocated amount also includes provisions for procuring a vehicle and establishing a secretariat for the National Union of Borno State Students (NUBOSS).

Nineteen students, hailing from the six law school campuses across the country, will be the recipients of the law scholarships. Additionally, five students studying in Benin Republic, along with other foreign students, will benefit from the French language scholarship initiative.

Highlighting the significance of the French language program, Isa emphasized that Borno State shares borders with three French-speaking nations—Cameroon, Niger, and Chad.

The strategic geographical location of the state further underscores the importance of fostering proficiency in the French language. To this end, the state government is committed to sponsoring individuals pursuing a master's degree in French language studies.

Abubakar Wajiro, the National President of NUBOSS, expressed gratitude to Governor Zulum for his unwavering support for education and his dedication to being a student-friendly governor.

Wajiro commended the scholarships, the provision of a vehicle, and the establishment of a well-equipped office for their union. He urged the state government to sustain its efforts in empowering and investing in the education sector.

The scholarships provided by Governor Zulum will not only alleviate the financial burden on deserving students but will also encourage academic excellence and promote the development of language skills.

It is a commendable step towards nurturing the intellectual growth of Borno's youth and equipping them with the necessary tools to contribute meaningfully to the state's progress and prosperity. Share this report below!
