A total of 2,209 candidates sat for the 2019
Bayero University, Kano, Aptitude Test (BUKAT). This was disclosed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Adamu Idris Tanko, shortly after the screening exercise on Saturday, 17th August, 2019.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor said 15,817 candidates applied to BUK for the 2019/2020 admission session. According to him, about 12, 209 participated in the screening exercise.
This invariably means that some candidates missed the exercise. The screening was conducted in morning and afternoon sessions, with a view to ensuring a smooth conduct of the exercise. Professor Tanko, moreover, expressed satisfaction over the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
He said that the screening was very smooth while the staff assigned to oversee the program were very dutiful, adding that the exercise started on schedule and all the candidates were law-abiding. “The screening was hitch free. No examination misconduct was reported whatsoever”, he disclosed.
Also speaking at the event, the Registrar, Hajiya Fatima Binta Mohammed, expressed delight over the arrangements and smooth conduct of the exercise. She stated that more venues were
provided to decongest the crowd and two situation rooms established, one each at Old and New Campuses to decentralize the coordination of the exercise. Hajiya Binta Mohammed pointed out that the University
had engaged the services of both teaching and non-teaching staff as invigilators and some students served as 'campus guides' in order to ensure the smooth running of the programme. Also commenting on the screening, the Director, Centre for
Information Technology (CIT), Professor Mohammed Ajiya, said that the exercise could be rated as very successful, as it was stress-free. He said that candidates were accommodated on the basis of their courses.
Professor Ajiya said that each candidate was given questions based on his/her registered JAMB courses and the questions were personalized and randomized to avoid any examination misconduct. Similarly, the Director,
Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records (DEAR), Hajiya Amina Umar Abdullahi, who coordinated the screening, disclosed that majority of the candidates were well behaved and properly dressed, noting that no cases of impersonation were recorded.
Two candidates who wrote the screening examination, Ummuhani Abdulmalik Ize (B.Sc. Biochemistry) and Abubakar Ayuba Abu Sufyan (B.Sc. Architecture), expressed satisfaction with the arrangement made by the University.
