The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has recently announced the outstanding performers in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME). During a policy meeting held in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar of JAMB, revealed the names of the highest scorers, showcasing their remarkable achievements.
Umeh Nkechinyere from Anambra state secured the top spot with an impressive score of 360, followed closely by Aguele Stephen from Edo state and Ositade Oluwafemi from Osun state, both achieving scores of 358. Other notable high scorers include Gbolahan Ayinde from Lagos state with a score of 357, John Fulfilment from Edo state with a score of 356, and Chimdubem Ugonna from Imo state with a score of 355. These exceptional students have shown immense dedication and intelligence, positioning themselves as candidates for admission into prestigious universities.
According to reports, Umeh Kamsiyochukwu Nkechinyere, a female student from Anambra state, took the UTME in Ogun state and has applied to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering. Aguele Stephen Oseruha, a male student from Edo state, also took the examination in his home state and has set his sights on the University of Benin (UNIBEN) to study computer engineering. Similarly, Ositade Oluwafemi Anthony, who completed the exam in Ogun state, has expressed interest in studying computer engineering at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
In addition to the announcement of the top scorers, JAMB has revealed the approved cut-off marks for the 2022/23 admissions into universities, polytechnics, and other tertiary institutions across the country. Professor Is-haq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, stated that a minimum score of 140 and above has been set as the cut-off mark for university admissions, while 100 is the approved cut-off mark for Polytechnics and Colleges of Education. It was emphasized that institutions must adhere to these cut-off marks in their admission processes.
Furthermore, JAMB has also made an important announcement regarding the post-UTME screening fee. The examination body has fixed the fee at N2,000 for all tertiary institutions nationwide. The registrar clarified that no institution would be allowed to impose additional charges on candidates, stating that the screening fee should not exceed N2,000. Institutions were strictly advised against imposing any other administrative or bank charges on candidates during the screening exercises.
The recent policy meeting held by JAMB has brought about significant updates in the Nigerian educational landscape.
