A video capturing a Nigerian lecturer cutting a female student's braids has ignited a storm of controversy and sparked intense discussions on social media. The incident, which took place at Benson Idahosa University, showcased the lecturer diligently trimming the student's braids while fellow classmates looked on.

The video was shared by the student, identified as @real_peace_seven07 on TikTok, with the caption, "When you know the kind of school you are going and you are forming jagaban. I love my school so much." This upload quickly went viral, prompting a flurry of reactions from Tiktokers, with the majority condemning the lecturer's actions.

While some viewers criticized the lecturer and the university, others urged students to comply with their institution's rules and regulations. One social media user, @Jumaima, expressed frustration, stating, "But when you know your school is like this, you should just follow the rules to avoid embarrassment. I hate that in my life." On the other hand, @Amicable sided with the lecturer, stating, "He did the right thing. Nobody needs long braids."

This incident follows a recent viral video that showcased a lecturer at Veritas University in Abuja shaving a student's head within the confines of a lecture hall. Although it remains unclear whether the university explicitly prohibits dreadlocks or certain hairstyles, many individuals criticized the lecturer's actions, arguing that adults should have the freedom to choose their preferred hairstyles.

The emergence of these controversial videos has reignited the ongoing debate surrounding personal appearance and individual freedoms within educational institutions. While some advocate for the respect of institutional regulations, others argue for more inclusive policies that embrace individual expression.

As discussions unfold online, the videos have drawn attention to the need for clearer guidelines and policies regarding dress codes and personal appearance in Nigerian universities. The incidents have prompted reflection on the delicate balance between enforcing rules and preserving students' rights to self-expression.

Authorities at Benson Idahosa University and Veritas University have yet to release official statements regarding these incidents. It remains to be seen how these institutions will address the growing concerns and opinions expressed by students and the public at large. If you love this report, share with your friends on social media.
